About our School
Reuchlin-Gymnasium is a Bavarian state secondary school with a vibrant community of approximately 750 students, aged 10-18, and 70 teachers. Our school combines the classicist tradition of education with an outstanding performing and fine arts program. A well-equipped, inspiring and supportive learning environment prepares our students for the modern world. At our school all students learn Latin from grade 5 and English from grade 6 onwards. In grade 8 students are able to choose between the humanities track (Ancient Greek), the modern languages track (French) and the science track (more Chemistry and Information Technology).
Furthermore, all our students have the option to take Italian beginning in grade 10. In addition to the regular academic program prescribed in the secondary schools curriculum, pupils can choose from a whole array of extracurricular activities: Spanish, Chinese, Fencing, Climbing, Robotics and Soccer are just some of the additional options. Upon successful graduation in grade 12, students receive their Abitur diploma, which qualifies them to enroll at any German university of their choice.
The school was originally set up in 1897 as a boys’ school with a strong focus on the classics. In 1919 the first girls were admitted. Reuchlin-Gymnasium received its present name in 1965. The school name honors Johannes Reuchlin, a renowned professor of Hebrew at Ingolstadt University in the 16th century.
Reuchlin-Gymnasium is located in Ingolstadt’s city center near such landmark buildings as the medieval cathedral, the castle and city fortifications. The City Theater Ingolstadt with its permanent ensemble enjoys an outstanding reputation and is within walking distance from Reuchlin-Gymnasium. Besides, from our school it only takes little over one hour to go on field trips to other major cultural events in Munich or Nuremberg.
Currently, our school has close links to partner schools in Italy and Hungary and does a sponsorship for a school in Zambia, Africa. Because of our Italian language program we are especially happy about our student exchange with Educandato Statale Collegio Uccellis from Udine in Italy. Our school orchestra visits and welcomes guests from our Hungarian partner school Móricz Zsigmond Általános Iskola in Dunaújváros, 70 kilometers south of Budapest. Student concerts and cultural performances play a particularly important role in this partnership. A student club of Reuchlin-Gymnasium raises money to provide financial support for extra school equipment or to meet other needs of Aids orphans at Monze Boarding High School in Zambia.
